When a visitor approaches Lookout, it is clear that a platform is provided to walk out over the water. Once on the platform the canopy and seat become apparent and invite the visitor to sit in that enclosed space.  When sat on the internal bench seat, the canopy cuts off any view of the adjacent banks and all that the visitor can be aware of is the wide surface of water to the front, and reflected light and sound. To all intent and purpose the visitor could be sitting on a raft right out in the middle of the lake.
